ATP Cheviot

Application: Offshore generator set and fire pumps
Location: 62 miles east of Shetland Islands
Engine: CAT 3516

The Cheviot production platform is a semi-submersible drilling, production and storage facility being fabricated for the development of the Cheviot offshore field; the offshore field is owned by ATP Oil & Gas (ATP). The Cheviot deep-water platform will be deployed approximately 62 miles east of the Shetland Islands, in 550ft of UK North Sea waters. The hull form was that of an octabuoy concept, which will have a height of 272ft and oil storage will be in the hull.

IPU were awarded all starting systems for both the fire pumps and generator set. The three start systems supplied were for two fire pumps, and the emergency generator set shown in the photograph opposite.
The installation of the hydraulic start system for the generator was unusual, as the space available was very limited, and there were numerous nominated vendors. The tubing and fittings were required to be Super Duplex which complied to the specification and added enhanced corrosion resistance to the system.
