Mike Benzies joins AMPS Technical Committee
We are very excited to announce that Mike Benzies, our Business Development Director, is now a member of the AMPS Technical Committee!
Throughout the lifetime of AMPS, IPU has always been passionate about the important role it plays within the industry.
AMPS is the Association of Manufacturers and Suppliers of Power generating Systems. It’s members are the lifeblood of the industry and are most affected by legislation changes.
Here at IPU, we always want to contribute and share into the industry, and Mike is the perfect person to be our representative. Mike has over 25 years of experience in fuel. But beyond that, having Mike on the panel allows us to feedback our other knowledge and expertise from the world of emissions abatement and engine starting. We’ve been in business for 62 years now and we never want to stop learning. It’s extremely important for us to be at the cutting edge of innovations and legislations that are coming down the line. We need to be able to guide our customers on navigating the realms of dirty gensets in a clean world.
Mike said of his appointment:
“Diesel is here to stay. The challenges faced when storing and using it very much remain the same, and with the best will in the world, there will be no quick switch to alternative fuels. IPU are passionate about a cleaner world and clean air compliance, so every involvement we can have with legislative changes can only be good.
Our customers are the people being heavily affected by these changes. If we aren’t are the forefront of legislation and change, if we aren’t listening to and communicating their feedback, then we aren’t serving our customers properly.
I’m interested to see where the next 5 – 10 years takes the world of fuel and AMPS itself – and I’m very excited to be a part of it.”
Mike went on to say:
“As companies try to look for alternatives to diesel, more and more are looking to GTL and HVO. But don’t get caught in the trap that these modern, ‘clean’ fuels aren’t susceptible to contamination, because they are. They may be modern fuels, but they can fall victim to the same problems found in diesel fuel storage – the problems we see all day, every day.
We don’t have a problem with HVO or GTL – of course we don’t. We have been supplying GTL for a number of years for customers looking to switch from diesel. However, we still recognise the need for fuel polishing systems and contamination control of these modern fuels, especially in the critical uptime space where we operate our services”.
