What is a remanufactured starter?
Many people will ask, ‘what is a remanufactured air starter?’ A remanufactured starter is simply a starter motor that has been restored to ‘as new’ condition. When your starter motor fails we can supply you with a direct replacement. Once your engine is back up and running we offer you a rebate for the old starter motor so we can remanufacture it.
Our expert team will then dismantle the old unit, replace all wear parts and failed components and restore it to full operability. Once a starter has been remanufactured we’ll guarantee it by testing, certifying and giving it 6 months warranty.
If your air starter motor fails you need a replacement and you need it yesterday. IPU can supply a replacement remanufactured air starter motor much quicker than if you buy new. We can supply all major makes and models in just days instead of weeks.
Remanufacturing should not be confused with a simple repair. Our remanufacturing process is much more comprehensive as every returned air starter motor undergoes the following process.
- Disassembly – All returned starter motors (“cores”) are disassembled. Threaded holes are retapped. The individual starter motor parts are separated, cleaned and inspected. Any parts that can be reused are further cleaned, polished and sent to the build department. Parts are only reused if they meet the manufacturer’s strict specifications.
- Assembly – Every remanufactured starter receives new bearings, seals, o-rings, gaskets and vanes. Starters are also built according to the manufacturer’s most current specifications including the use of recommended oils and greases.Testing and painting – Assembled units are inspected for appearance, orientation confirmation, rotation confirmation, clutch(es) operation confirmation,
- Testing and painting – Assembled units are inspected for appearance, orientation confirmation, rotation confirmation, clutch(es) operation confirmation, torque of critical fasteners, bendix drive function (inertia models) and general leak test. Our remanufacturing team has access to load testers and real-world test units that provide accurate cycle counts that truly test the components. All units that pass testing are then cleaned, painted and packaged.
